Where Does Your City Tax Go?
Enter your home’s assessed value to estimate your annual Takoma Park City property tax and see how that amount corresponds to FY2026 General Fund spending.
Use the assessed value shown on your Maryland property assessment or tax bill.
How this estimate is calculated
This calculator uses the City of Takoma Park’s FY2026 real-property tax rate of $0.5522 per $100 of assessed value. The entered assessed value is first used to estimate the annual Takoma Park City property tax.
The calculated City tax is then allocated using the City’s FY2026 Adopted General Fund expenditures. Each spending category’s percentage is calculated by dividing that category’s adopted FY2026 General Fund expenditure by total FY2026 adopted General Fund expenditures of $34,297,741.
The categories are General Government, Police, Public Works, Recreation, Housing and Community Development, Communications, Library, Multi-Departmental expenditures, Capital Outlay, and Debt Service.
These amounts are intended to illustrate how General Fund spending is allocated. Individual property-tax payments are not literally earmarked dollar-for-dollar to particular departments or services.
Some City service costs may also be offset by grants, reimbursements, payments from Montgomery County, fees, or other revenues. The figures shown here therefore do not necessarily represent the net taxpayer-funded cost of each City service.
Actual tax bills may also differ because of credits, exemptions, assessment changes, or other adjustments applicable to an individual property.
